Thank you for today’s Today, I learned the importance of Co-working and Co-creation with foreigners including international immigrants. I found that the lectures at today’s forum are linked with what I learned in the UK during my study abroad and what I’m studying now in Gakushuin University about migration and those challenges and problems. Honestly, I hadn’t known the history of migration (especially in Japan) until I took a class about human rights and economic development. I guess many Japanese people don’t know about the issues because these are unfamiliar issues for them. With the spread of threat of Russia-Ukraine war, I reckon it’s time to think international migration challenges and problems to co-work with asylum seekers and migrants during the time of war. I want to know more about how we can help migrants.
To begin with, I was surprised to find out that Japan was one of the countries that accepted many foreign people because now Japan seems to be very negative about it. However, I also learned that it was because there has been less migration flow due to the pandemic and this problem of less international flow of people has become a problem not only for Japan, but also many other countries that need human resources from outside of their countries. Moreover, especially in Japan, this problem has been making the worker shortage more serious since foreign workforce is no longer helping to cover the shortage. I only made it to Part II unfortunately, but it was a really interesting forum so I wish I could attend all the parts. I made a comment: The differences between the phenomena that Asia has and that Europe and/or the United States has about migration are interesting.
